Fiji hotels gear up for Bilibili Race
October 07, 2008

The 2008 Bilibili race is expected to be bigger and better this weekend, attracting thousands of fans at the banks of the Sigatoka River on Friday.

With new sponsors Vodafone Fiji on board, organizers forecast another stand still at Sigatoka Town when locals and tourists mingle together to enjoy sports at the banks of the Sigatoka River.

It is also the annual sports day for hotel employees in Fiji-most of them the lone day to have a day-off from their busy daily schedules of serving tourists.

Event coordinator Unaisi Murray confirmed said a 20 kilometre relay would kick-start the one-day sports carnival.

“Each team will consist of 10 runners; three females and seven males from the Hideaway resort to Sigatoka Town,” Murray added.

“There’s a lot of positive response towards this event, we’re all looking forward to the big day.”

The event which coincides with the Fiji Day celebrations in Sigatoka was once known as the Prince Charles.

It was started by Bob Kennedy, a former general manager of the Reef Resort now called the Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji.

The 2008 Bilibili Races will be hosted by the Warwick Fiji Resort.
