SWIMMING Fiji has secured a new sponsor for its National Long Course Championships which will be held in Suva this weekend. Overseas swimmers will take part in the event.

Milo has come on board and SF president Dennis Miller said this will see the start of a new and exciting relationship between Fiji Swimming and Milo.

Milo will sponsor the 2008 Fiji National Long Course Swimming Championships, the Fiji National Short Course Swimming Championships and the Fiji Swimming Awards, Miller said.

This weekend's championships will be held at the National Aquatic Centre from Friday to Sunday and more than 200 swimmers, including entrants from New Zealand and Australia.

The championships will be the final trials for Team Fiji to the Oceania Swimming Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand in June, Miller said.

The Milo National Short Course Championships will be held at the National Aquatic Centre from October 24-26.

This will be the final event on Fiji Swimming's 2008 domestic calendar and will be followed by the Fiji Swimming Awards on November 22.

The 2008 Milo Awards will recognise excellence at all levels of swimming in Fiji. Awards will be presented for Junior Swimmer of the Year, Emerging Swimmer of the Year, Freestyle Swimmer of the Year, Breaststroke Swimmer of the Year, Backstroke Swimmer of the Year, Butterfly Swimmer of the Year, Individual Medley Swimmer of the Year and Distance Freestyle Swimmer of the Year."

There will be other awards on offer.
