More than 50,000 Australians visited Fiji in the first three months of the year, says the Fiji Visitors Bureau.
This set an all-time record with an increase of about 38 per cent compared to the same period in 2007.
The total Australian arrivals figure was 50,587, compared to 36,745 for the same period in 2007 and 40,988 for the same period in 2006, an increase on that year of 24 per cent.
FVB regional director Paresh Pant attributed the increase in arrivals figures to close working relationships with travel wholesalers, including for example Qantas Holidays, talpacific Holidays, Flight Centers and Fiji Specialist Holidays, Rosie Holidays, Coral Sun, Blue Holidays, Harvey's Choice, Creative Holidays and airlines Air Pacific, Qantas and Pacific Blue. Forward bookings were healthy and Australia remained confident of achieving the Bureau's target of 209,000 visitors in 2008, he said."
