Kruse-ing shoreline fashion

IT's time to give the popular 'z' dress code a shake-up, says fashionista Courtney Kruse.

After all, "it's getting to be monotonous," she reasoned.

The spirited 26-year-old fashion designer of Samoan heritage hopes her creations will provide the impetus for locals to shift from blasÚ bula.

She is among the 12 'emerging designers' who will bare themselves, through their creations that is, for the critique of established designers, fashion editors and the stylishly-inclined at the Fiji Fashion Week today.

Courtney is not exactly a babe in the waters though.

She shares creative credit with Horace Gock of Staying Alive and Herman Chung of Xoolu for UBR Wear.

She was also a runner-up in a designers contest years ago in which she was placed fourth in a category that was won by renowned designers Hupfeld Hoerder and Sisifa Fifita.

Despite her experience, it's only this year that Courtney has spawned her very own brand, Shorelines; hence her listing in the Emerging Designers category, under which she has four labels.

La Moana; inspired by her paternal grandmother Moana who introduced her to fashion with her love of mumu, is her collection of elegant, evening wear for ladies, Local Boy is the line of men's corporate wear, Salulu is her plus-size range which includes maternity wear and mumu, and Lulu Lailai is, as the name denotes, her children's collection.

The best of these labels will be among the 12 pieces to be sashayed on Fiji's high fashion runway this evening.

The last few months have been a frenzied time for Courtney.

Aside from pushing her creative juices into overdrive for her labels, she set up Shorelines Fiji Limited to manage her designs, and oversees her design commitments at her partner's Uprising Resort in Pacific Harbour.
